What Is MockView? Edmoat's AI Mock Interview Tool: Real Formats, School Rubrics and English Fixes You Can Say Out Loud

UofTMcMasterSmith
MockView Mock Interviews: Real formats · school rubrics · English fixes

Short answer: MockView is Edmoat's AI interview coach. It follows a target school's real supplementary application format (question types, prep time, answer length and word cap), scores on that school's rubric with a correction for score inflation, quotes your own words and gives English fixes you can say out loud. UofT Engineering, McMaster Engineering and Queen's Commerce are live.

Key points

  • Three design choices: real format, the school's own rubric with inflation calibration, and quoted words with English fixes.
  • Live: UofT Engineering, McMaster Engineering, Queen's Commerce. Coming soon: Rotman, Ivey AEO, Waterloo.
  • 120+ real-style questions, and a full run takes about 18 minutes.
  • A report is more than a number: it shows your weakest dimension and what to say next time.
  • It's a practice tool, not an admissions predictor; your content must come from your own real experience.

1. Why Reading Guides Isn't Enough

The hard part of a Canadian university supplementary application isn't knowing what a good answer looks like. It's doing it under a clock, in one take, in front of human reviewers. Kira-style video questions usually give you one to two minutes to prepare and one to two minutes to answer, with no retakes, and written questions add a word limit and a countdown. Once you understand the rubric, what separates applicants is whether you can actually deliver structure, detail and reflection under real pressure.

Many students practise with a general-purpose chatbot: ask for an interview question, write an answer, ask for feedback. That helps with content, but it's missing three things:

  • No real timing or format. There's no countdown, no one-take pressure and no school-specific mix of question types.
  • No target-school rubric. Generic feedback doesn't know what UofT Engineering, McMaster Engineering or Queen's Commerce each look for.
  • A tendency to flatter. Many general tools score high. You finish practising feeling great, then find the gap on the day.

MockView was built to solve those three problems.

2. What MockView Is

MockView is Edmoat's own AI interview coach for students applying to Canadian undergraduate programs. You pick a target school and work through that school's real supplementary application format — its question mix, prep time, answer window and word cap — and then receive a report scored on that school's own rubric.

Three design choices stand out:

Design choice How it works What it does for you
Real format Each school has a different mix of question types, prep time, answer length and word limit. MockView follows each school's real format. The pressure is close to the real thing, so you don't practise one thing and face another.
Scored on that school's rubric, calibrated for score inflation It scores on the target school's own dimensions and corrects for the "everyone gets a high score" effect. Scores sit closer to your real level instead of giving you false comfort.
Quotes your own words, with English you can say out loud Feedback quotes what you actually said, points to the specific line that has a problem, and gives every fix as a sentence you can say aloud. You know what to change and how to say it, with no translating or guessing.

3. What a Report Looks Like

Here is a sample report (from MockView's own example, shown to illustrate the structure):

  • School and prompt: UofT Engineering, question 2 (a personal experience question): "Describe a time you had to rethink your approach to a problem. What changed your mind?"
  • Overall band: 4 / 5
  • By dimension:
Dimension Score
Program fit 4 / 5
Narrative & structure 5 / 5
Specificity 4 / 5
Reflection & delivery 3 / 5
  • A rewrite suggestion: for a weak reflection, the report offers a line you can use directly, for example "What I took away is that good engineering starts by questioning the problem, not the solution."

As you can see, the report doesn't just give a single number. It shows you which dimension is weakest (here, reflection and delivery) and gives you what to say next time.

👀 Try it first: reading about it is no substitute for doing one. In a few minutes you get a report scored on the school's rubric. Open MockView →

4. Which Schools Are Supported

Status Schools and programs
Live now UofT Engineering, McMaster Engineering, Queen's Commerce
Coming soon Rotman Commerce, Ivey AEO, Waterloo

The question bank has more than 120 real-style questions, and a full run takes about 18 minutes. More schools are being added. For schools that aren't live yet, you can practise timed video answers and STAR structure in a live school's mode, since the method carries over.

5. Who It's For, and Who It Isn't

It's a good fit for:

  • Students who've read their target school's guide and want to turn knowing into doing.
  • Students with little experience of video interviews or timed writing who want a few low-risk rounds first.
  • Students for whom English isn't a first language and who want an English fix they can say out loud after every attempt.

Things to keep in mind:

  • It's a practice tool, not an admissions predictor. AI scoring is a practice reference. It isn't the school's real score and can't promise an outcome.
  • It doesn't write your essays or invent your stories. Your content must come from your own real experience. The fixes help you say it more clearly; they don't make things up for you.
  • For a more personal diagnosis, pair it with a human advisor. The tool gives you frequent practice; an advisor helps you shape your story bank and application thread.

6. How to Get Started
